Writer’s note: This featured video may contain some very slight spoilers to season three of “Stranger Things.” I mean, not really, but people get mad, you know.HAWKINS, Indiana — When a modern show takes place in the 80s, the field is ripe for mashup pickings.

Season three of Netflix’s “Stranger Things” introduces a fancy new mall called Starcourt, which upped the 80s nostalgia to the nth degree, which means that the internet would likely make 80s memes and mashups galore.

Frankly, the Duffer Brothers made this extra easy with the mustachioed character Sheriff Jim Hopper, as played by David Harbour. Hopper is known as a sort of lazy rule bender, but he steps up when trouble comes to town. Under his gruff exterior, he’s fiercely loyal and loving, even if he is the worst communicator in the history of Hawkins, Indiana.

So when he abandons his sloppy uniform for a Miami Vice-style Hawaiian shirt in order to go on a date, it’s clear that he’s trying to communicate that he cares. Of course, the second he pairs his shirt with that mustache, the comparison to 80s TV hit “Magnum, P.I.” is inevitable.

YouTube users Here Lies thought the same thing, but they had the skills and vision to do something about it. Thus one of the greatest mashups of all time was born.

The video simply takes the opening theme of “Magnum, P.I.” (refresh your memory here) and supercuts scenes from “Stranger Things” season three to create “Hopper, P.I.”

And it’s beautiful.

If you haven’t seen season 3 of “Stranger Things,” some of the jokes in the video may not make sense. But if you’ve seen both shows, you may think (very rightly) that this video is such perfection that the internet may just have to shut down entirely.
