CRABVILLE — First it was the grasshoppers in Las Vegas, then it was the stink bugs in southern Utah. Now crabs are swarming a city in Florida.
Abriel Arnel recently recorded a video of a slew of the small sea creatures sidestepping around her neighborhood in Stuart, Florida. While some scatter for nearby grass as a car drives by, others don’t quite make it and are crunched under the car’s tires.
"We've lived here for a few years and this is the worst we've seen them!" Arnel told Fox 35, a Fox News subsidiary in Florida. "I was told they are blue land crabs. Apparently they burrow throughout the year, but it's during this season (and their spawning season) when the heavy rain forces them out."
Researchers say blue land crab mating and female migration season occurs until December and peaks in October and November, Fox 35 reports. So, this isn’t the first crab infestation Florida has seen.
In July, another Floridian in Port St. Lucie recorded hundreds of crabs crawling up his screen porch and all over his yard.
