In 1925, a flash flood in Vernal's Five Mile Creek struck a car containing nine occupants, and swept an 8-year old boy to his death. In 1986, lightning was responsible for setting off some fireworks prematurely at Cougar Stadium in Provo. The city of Hyrum received 1 inch of rain in 30 minutes. In 2001, Provo hit a record 106 degrees.
