TWISTER COUNTRY — When KSL.com found this video on Facebook about a twister, I immediately thought of the 1996 classic “Twister.” Yeah, I said classic. I figured I’d be seeing Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton look-alikes strapped to a pole as they levitate inside of an F5 tornado and watch a cow flyby.
I was wrong, but this is still pretty cool.
Rachel Barlow Keopple posted this video on Facebook of a dust twister in Syracuse, Utah. There is something impressive about seeing a cyclone, no matter how small, form right in front of you and kick up some dust — and I’m pumped Rachel got it on camera. I’ve seen several of these in Utah in my lifetime, but I’ve never caught one on film.
This natural phenomenon may not look all that intimidating, but I’m also a coward — as most of you know — and if I were standing in front of it I’d probably get a bit uncomfortable and lock my car doors for some inexplicable reason. Thankfully, Rachel is not the coward I am and held firm and got this video for us.
It may not be the epic the Academy overlooked like “Twister,” but it’s still a pretty cool video and it’s right here in our own backyard.
