THE INTERNET — I've said it once and I'll say it again, human bodies are weird.
The variance in size and shape of humans across the world is all the proof you need. To put it into a visually stark contrast, simply check out this post from Bored Panda that shows the different body types of Olympic athletes. When you compare the tiniest figure skater to a sumo wrestler, none of it makes sense. It's a real brain boggler.
Today you'll see another brain boggler — a 4.5 inch thumb on a hand that has no business having a 4.5 inch thumb.
Jacob Pina recorded his thumb for TikTok in 2019, and it, of course, immediately went viral. And every time it resurfaces it goes viral. Why? Because human bodies are weird.
You may think the video is faked and somehow digitally monitored. But according to the Boston Globe, the thumb is legit. Well at least Pina's mom said it's legit, and everyone knows moms are always right.
"For me, I'm (5 feet 10 inches), so it's weird on my hand," Pina told the Globe. "It's out of place. All my fingers are long, so when I stretch out my hand it kind of looks normal. But when I stick it up, it looks crazy."
When Pina says in the video that he's "never lost a thumb war," you 100 percent believe it. His thumb is intimidating enough that you'd be out of your mind to declare a thumb war within two miles of the man.
Pina's thumb stretches out so long because the second joint, the metacarpophalangeal joint (say that five times fast), doesn't have the usual bend of most thumbs.
