THE BACKYARD — Hide-and-seek is a timeless game. It's fun as a child and, let's all be honest, it's fun as an adult as well. Granted, the areas you can hide seem to drop as we get taller and our waistlines increase. Have you tried hiding under a bed lately? It's actually a little terrifying; there's not a lot of room.
Hide-and-seek is an international game that transcends age. While adults may have a tough time finding a space large enough to hide in, this little girl is struggling to grasp the concept.
The video is quick as a dad announces that they're going to play the classic game. He starts to count, and the little girl in the foreground immediately takes off to find a hiding spot. The little boy in the background does the same. The dad slowly turns the camera around to look for his daughter, who has hidden behind a door. Seems like a pretty great idea, right? I mean, that's a little girl behind a big door. It's genius! Well, it would be genius if the door wasn't made of glass.
While her hiding spot is atrocious, I have to give it to the little one. First off, she tried, which is more than I can say for myself sometimes. Second, she is committed. She is smashed right into that glass hoping to stay as concealed as possible. Third, and most important, she's having a great time. That's what hide-and-seek is all about: enjoying yourself. That, and finding the perfect hiding place that no one will find you in for 30 years. At which point you emerge during a vigil held three decades after your disappearance (because there are a few loved ones who never gave up hope), throw your hands in the air and yell, "I am the champion," collecting high fives from all of the losers who couldn't find you.
This little girl didn't get her triumphant moment three decades in the making, but she did manage to make a pretty great video.
