Editor’s Note: The video included with this article contains movie violence.TV LAND — No matter how good, magical or entertaining television and movies are, there’s always someone on the Internet doing their utmost to tweak it and make it “better.”
Perhaps a fan sees a similarity between two shows and makes a side-by-side comparison or mashup, or maybe a creative individual uses their editing skills to change a movie ending they deem better. But perhaps my favorite form of “bettering” TV and movies is the addition of incongruous music for a surprising or comedic effect.
YouTube user Gifford Confirmed certainly delivered in the latter vein with a recent pairing of a brutal fight scene from the Netflix original series "Daredevil" with the theme music of Benny Hill. It takes an intense few minutes of film and changes it into comedic mayhem.
The scene choice is key here. Part of what the new "Daredevil" series has become known for is the well-choreographed and minutes-long fight scenes that are all filmed in a single shot. Sure, the no-cuts makes it easy to seamlessly pair with new music, but what really makes this pairing genius is the fact that the scene takes place in a hallway where stuntmen are coming in and out of doors (whether of their own volition or through the momentum of a well-placed kick or punch). It’s a classic Benny Hill chase simply begging for Benny Hill music, as you can see with this Benny Hill homage from "The Simpsons."
It truly does make a stressful scene into slapstick gold.
