FINLAND — It's difficult to do just about anything outside when the temperature is below zero. Walking your dog? Ugh. Changing a car tire? Ugh. Shoveling your driveway? Ugh. Doing tricks with a yo-yo? Ugh.
I once went to a hot spring when the temperature dipped below zero. While it was heavenly to bask in the water, I had a pit in my stomach the whole time. How would it feel to ultimately leave the hot spring and walk the 200 yards back to my car?
The correct answer to this question was "excruciating." As we made our way to the car, our hair, eyebrows and eyelashes froze. Our toes began to sting. Our ears felt like they were going to fall off.
In short, the human body wasn't meant to spend time in that kind of weather. But some folks are better at it than others. For example, take the fellow in this video.
Those frozen eyebrows definitely bring back bad memories from my hot spring experience. According to the video's description, this run took place in even colder weather.
"I was on vacation in Rovaniemi, Finland, and that day the temperature was (negative) 28 degrees Celsius," wrote the user who uploaded the clip. "For a moment, I considered skipping my run because of the cold, but I decided that the freezing weather could not be an excuse."
Wow. That's dedication. And as long as there was no frostbite or hypothermia, all's well that ends well.
