ST. AUGUSTINE, Florida — A Florida man who was allegedly trying to cross the Atlantic Ocean in a human hamster wheel was recently arrested by the U.S. Coast Guard.
Reza Baluchi, granted asylum from Iran, was 70 miles off the Georgia coastline on Aug. 26 with Hurricane Franklin approaching — allegedly heading to London — when the Coast Guard attempted to stop him. But Baluchi, who had attempted a similar journey three times before, refused to get off.
What the Coast Guard described as a "bizarre three-day standoff" ensued, before Baluchi eventually surrendered. He now faces potential federal charges.
This video from two years ago shows another instance when Baluchi attempted to walk on water from Florida to New York, for charity, he told Fox 35 Orlando.
