THE DRIVEWAY — Have you ever had a moment when you're brain and body has had enough and you just say, "Nope, not today. Not going to try and I don't even care"?
Well, I've had more of those days than I'd like to admit. I think I bottle things in too much and take on too much. Then all that energy and anxiety builds until I can't take any more. But instead of flipping out or having a melt down, I just kind of give up and let the world go on without me for five minutes.
I always assumed I wasn't alone on this and now I know I'm not, thanks to this video.
This is Landry. He lives in Kansas and he is 4. Landry was headed to the school bus and apparently was trying to get his mask on. As most 4-year-olds do, Landry struggled to get it over his ears and stay in place. Finally, Landry did what I do all too often and said, "Nope." He stops dead in his tracks and lays flat on his back on the driveway.
I feel you, Landry, more than you'll ever know.
My latest, lie-flat-on-my-back-and-give-up moment happened just a few weeks ago. I was attending a virtual work meeting in my basement office. I hit my limit, I took off my headphones and laid face down on the carpet as the meeting continued. I didn't even bother to turn off my camera. That's where I was.
So, you lay down steps away from the bus. You take that minute to recenter yourself and say, "I'll get up in a few minutes, but right now it's a nope. Everything is a nope."
