THE DRIVEWAY — Driving a car is a huge responsibility.

First of all, cars usually weigh at least a literal ton and most weigh much more. And the bigger the car gets, the heavier it gets. And the heavier it gets, the more unwieldy and dangerous it becomes.

Additionally, there are a lot of rules to remember, and not just the rule of law. For example, raise your hand if you learned in driver’s ed that you should walk around your car every time you drive it to check for flat tires, stray objects, and other safety concerns. Now raise your hand if you actually do this with your personal vehicle. (No judgement, just making a point.)

Even if we are perfect in our responsibility as car owners and operators, accidents and near accidents do happen.

In this video, you’ll see a near accident with no blame on the driver. The scene shows a car backing out and a puppy, with a mind of its own, happily prancing across the driveway.

Of course it’s almost impossible to see a tiny puppy in any of your mirrors as you’re backing out, but luckily mama dog was paying attention. With the speed and accuracy of a superhero, mama swoops in, grabs her puppy by the scruff, and quickly moves them both to safety.

She is rewarded with a “thank goodness all creatures are safe” hug and the true love and devotion of the internet.
