THE STUDIO — It’s always a risky move to cover a classic and beloved song that is ingrained into multiple generations.

Internet history has shown us that is can go horribly, horribly wrong, and many have been mocked and shamed because of it. Yet people keep trying, and they keep trying because when it goes right, it’s a sensation.

In this featured video, it goes oh so right.

For you all youngsters out there, “classic song” does not quite mean songs from 10-ish years ago such as Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face” circa 2008. Today we’re going way back to 1954.

Now you see kids, in 1915 a man was born who later became a huge music and movie star. He sang all the hits and was arguably the leader of The Rat Pack, a group of singers who were close friends and crooned together often in Las Vegas. That’s right, we’re talking about Ol’ Blue Eyes himself, Frank Sinatra.

Now Frank didn’t write his own music, but he sure sang a lot of songs that became mega hits. They’re songs you’ll still hear today as they crop up on movie soundtracks and TV shows. And in 1954 his hit “Fly Me to the Moon,” was a hot ticket.

Fast forward to June 2019, when YouTube user Going Spaceward, aka David Sikabwe, posted his addition to the classic big band hit. Yes, an addition.

This brave and talented soul wrote his own rap verse, which he performs before he breaks into the chorus of “Fly Me to the Moon,” and it’s a pure delight. He stays true to the space theme and the romance, and it’s sweet and charming addition to the song.

As someone who grew up listening to Frank, I would like to think that he would approve.
