THE FRONT YARD — Once upon a time, there was a dad named Daniel Hashimoto who was really good at adding special effects to videos.

Not only was he good with the software, but he and his kids had the imagination to make new and fun things. Indeed, you may have seen some of his videos where his son, James, turns into Action Movie Kid, living a life of thrills and danger during the most mundane everyday activities. I mean, who wouldn’t want their kid-made cardboard light saber turned into a real light saber? But I digress.

One day, James got the gift of a little sister, and soon that little sister was a toddler who could star in her own special effects videos. In her latest video, her dad asks, “What kind of spells would a toddler cast if she had her own magic wand?”

You imagine zoo animals in the house, oatmeal on the ceiling and an endless parade of finger foods and poorly produced children’s music and films. But the love of a father imagined something more precious and harmless, namely sunshine, lollipops and rainbows.

The adorable 50-second video in this tale shows the little girl banging her “wand” around her front yard, producing colors and rainbows at every thwap. At times it even feels a little like Disney’s “Sleeping Beauty” when the fairies, Flora and Merryweather, have a color fight with Aurora’s dress.

Of course, when you hear the Irish jig music, you’ll understand that the video also has a St. Patrick’s Day theme, but a day late isn’t much when you see something this cute.

For a little unlucky rainbow magic, watch Action Movie Kid’s St. Patrick’s day video
