AWKWARDVILLE — Let’s just get this out there up front: Dating is incredibly awkward and there’s usually nothing you can do about it. It’s like the rite of passage to the eventual prize of marriage — or whatever your ultimate prize is.

There are so many questions: Does she like me? What’s he really thinking? How do I not look like an idiot? What do I wear? What will his friends think of me?

And if that’s not enough, there are games being played: How many days before I call her back? Awkward goodbyes at the front door. Do you kiss or is that too forward? And, simply, just a bunch of unexpected situations that many, if not all of us, have faced at one time or another (or are still going through).

At least for most of us, there isn’t or wasn’t someone standing by the wayside judging our every move on a date — at least not that we know of. Imagine that blind date being analyzed by a play-by-play announcer, like a basketball or soccer game. Every wrong move would be criticized and broadcast to the world.

However, there is a benefit of this play-by-play dating: Any time you did something right, you’d get a lot of praise, maybe a “slam dunk!” or “GOOOOOOAAAALLLLLL!” Whatever makes you happy.

Luckily, the worldwide leader of sports, ESPN, is there for those of you dating … or it's releasing a promo about the World Cup. Either way, take solace in the fact that you’re not alone in your awkward dates. We’ve all been there.
