WORLD WIDE WEB — Some advertisements use unrealistic scenery, attractive people or even heartwarming life lessons to try to get people to "purchase."

This commercial doesn't have any of that. It's shot from a handheld camera that is not high-definition, yet it's one of the most effective commercials I've seen. I left wanting to find this umbrella after only 19 seconds and no words.

This umbrella salesman and his team put together a one-take video that shows you exactly what the umbrella can do and answers the questions that are hard to find answers to in an Amazon listing.

In just a few seconds, he shows how the umbrellas can withstand wind, double as flashlights, provide rain protection for two people, and won't hold on to water. You leave feeling entertained rather than hoping to get on with whatever video you were watching.

I wish similar videos were available for all of the things on my shopping list.

These short commercials helped Lei Penglin find a larger customer base through social media channels, according to a video from Sixth Tone, a YouTube channel dedicated to telling Chinese stories. Penglin said he gets ideas for new ways to customize umbrellas through comments on his videos.
