MAGNA — One person died Friday in a crash on I-80 near Magna.

A Mazda was traveling west on I-80 when a tire blew, leading the vehicle to lose control before being struck by a dump truck, said Utah Highway Patrol Cpl. Luis Silva. The dump truck then hit a guardrail on the side of the road and rolled down an embankment where it caught on fire.

The driver of the dump truck, who has not yet been identified, died at the scene.

The driver of the Mazda, a woman in her 20s, was transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.

Silva said westbound I-80 was expected to be closed until around 3:45 p.m.
