OREM — A 17-year-old girl was hit and killed by a car in Orem on Monday night.
According to social media posts, including one from Vineyard City Councilwoman Amber Rasmussen, Siena Schoenrock, a senior at Provo High School, was the victim in the incident.
"There is nothing I can do to repair the devastating loss this family and our community are experiencing. We can, however, come together to support the family and friends of Siena Schoenrock, so please offer what you can, whether they be words of kindness or financial support," Rasmussen posted on Facebook, also linking to a GoFundMe* page for Siena.
Siena was walking in the area of 400 S. Vineyard Road when she was hit. The driver of the vehicle that hit her stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, according to a statement from Orem police. No other details were immediately available.
"We are devastated as a community to share the heartbreaking news that Siena Schoenrock, our kind, loving and full of life friend, sister and daughter was involved in a tragic auto-pedestrian accident and lost her life," the GoFundMe* page states. "Siena was a bright and promising young individual who had her whole life ahead of her. Her loss has left a void that can never be filled."
The Orem incident capped off an unsettling few days on Utah's roads, during which several pedestrians and a motorist were killed or critically injured in separate crashes.
- In Cottonwood Heights, just after 5 p.m. Monday, a 12-year-old boy was in a crosswalk at 2200 E. Fort Union Boulevard and was carrying an orange crossing flag. One car stopped for the boy, but a second did not and hit him, according to police. The boy was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. The driver, Sheree Lyn Hudson-Isom, 67, "acknowledged taking prescription opiates prior to the incident," according to a police booking affidavit. She was arrested for investigation of DUI.
- In Sandy, about 12:35 p.m. Monday, a 66-year-old woman in what appeared to be a motorized wheelchair was hit by a TRAX train and killed while in the crossing at the Historic Sandy Station at 9000 South. Her name has not yet been released.
- In Price, a train hit a car at 800 East and Nick Lane on Sunday, killing the driver. The driver's name has not yet been released.
- In Salt Lake City, Vanessa David, 44, was hit by a car and killed Friday while walking near the intersection at Redwood Road at the Interstate 80 overpass in the area of 200 South. The driver drove off and has not been located as of Tuesday. Police were looking for a brown 2008 Honda Civic with skull stickers in the back window and Utah license plate V40-7UJ. They found the vehicle Tuesday night. Anyone with information can call 801-799-3000.
In addition to the crashes, a man was arrested in Kearns and accused of shooting at another vehicle during a road-rage confrontation. Police say the shot hit the brim of the victim's cap, barely missing his head.
