SANDY — A 66-year-old woman was killed when she was struck by a TRAX train in Sandy on Monday afternoon, according to the Utah Transit Authority.
The collision occurred about 12:37 p.m. in the crossing at 9000 South, UTA spokesman Carl Arky said. He said a northbound Blue Line train was "decelerating" as it was coming to the station, when it struck a 66-year-old woman in what appeared to be a motorized wheelchair.
UTA police responded to the scene, but the investigation is still ongoing and more information was not immediately available.
Traffic on 9000 South was stopped in both directions for several hours because the train was blocking the intersection, Arky said. The road reopened and transit traffic resumed as normal shortly before 4 p.m.
