PARK CITY — Prosecutors plan to call their final witness early this week in the murder trial for Kouri Richins, a Kamas mother accused of killing her husband before writing a children's book about grief.
Deputy Summit County attorney Brad Bloodworth said Thursday that Detective Jeff O'Driscoll will take the stand either Monday afternoon or Tuesday this week. He also said they had plans to call Cody Wright, her husband Eric Richins' business partner, to testify.
Wright's wife and other employees of Eric Richins' company testified in the case on Thursday. One of those employees, Becky Lloyd, described a conversation she had with Kouri Richins two and a half months before Eric Richins' death about her marital struggles. Lloyd testified that she remembers Richins saying, "In many ways it would be better if Eric was dead."
Kouri Richins' attorneys have said they plan to call some witnesses back to the stand during the last two weeks of the trial.
She is accused of fatally poisoning Eric Richins on March 4, 2022, and slipping drugs into his food that made him sick a few weeks earlier. Monday is the beginning of the third week in her jury trial, which is scheduled to last until March 27.
Kouri Richins, 35, is charged with aggravated murder and attempted aggravated murder, first-degree felonies, two counts of insurance fraud, a second-degree felony, and forgery, a third-degree felony. She also has a separate case with additional financial charges, which will not be considered by this jury.
