NEW ZEALAND — Earlier this year, we featured a video of a car wildly driving over a roundabout. The video stirred a lot of emotions with readers, as evidenced by these comments:
- "I love roundabouts … BEST catchers of DUI drivers ever."
- "I don't like roundabouts. They just put a monster of one near where I live. Horrible."
- "Oof! Utah is not ready or capable of navigating that correctly! In American Fork at the Meadows shopping center there's a roundabout after you turn off of State Street. It has two lanes … my children and I call it the roundabout of doom."
- "This video did my heart good; roundabouts are the stupidest way of configuring an intersection unless the intersection has five or more roads meeting together. I think they should all be demolished."
Among the many comments were passionate arguments for and against the use of roundabouts. So when I stumbled upon this video, I had to share.
Does this video prove the dangers of roundabouts or merely showcase an idiot driver doing idiotic things? I'm sure that depends on each reader's interpretation.
For the record, the video's caption blames the crash on excessive speed and explains that the driver was "taken away by police after being checked out by an ambulance."
