THE BEDROOM – Vacuum sealing has been a game-changer in the mattress biz, creating what many people refer to as a "bed-in-a-box." As far as I understand it, here's how the process works:
- Make a super squishy mattress that doesn't contain any springs or frame pieces.
- Place the mattress in a heavy-duty bag.
- Use a hose to suck out all the air.
- Seal the bag up and send it on its way.
Imagine how nice it is for manufacturers to be able to deliver a tightly rolled package across the country instead of a regular-sized California king mattress. It must save a bundle on shipping.
Are there drawbacks to vacuum-sealed mattresses? I've heard they might not be as durable, since the materials are less robust than those in many other mattresses. The other issue? They sometimes burst out of their packaging when you're opening them.

Yikes! It's not very often that furniture attacks you like that. Having opened a few of these mattresses in the past, I don't think I ever would've positioned myself quite like this guy did. But this video is a good reminder for us all to keep our heads on a swivel when working with mattresses. You never know when they're going to lash out and try to smash us into oblivion.
