NORTH SALT LAKE — A driver who police say caused a multi-vehicle crash while going the wrong way on I-15, killing one person, remained in critical condition Monday.

Emergency dispatchers in Davis County started getting calls just before 7:15 p.m. Sunday of a Chrysler traveling south in the northbound lanes of I-15 near 2600 South. Soon after, the wrong-way driver hit a motorcycle near Center Street, then swerved and hit a Ford Fusion, according to the Utah Highway Patrol. The Chrysler was then spun around and hit by another car.

The motorcycle rider, 24-year-old Gregory Workman from South Weber, was killed. Workman was wearing a helmet and other protective equipment, according to UHP Sgt. Cameron Roden.

Three other people in the other vehicles were treated for non-life threatening injuries sustained in the crash.

"The driver of the wrong-way vehicle was transported to an area hospital with critical, life-threatening injuries," the UHP stated.

The freeway was closed in the area for about 4 1/2 hours as troopers investigated the crash. Why the driver was going the wrong way was still being investigated Monday.
