THE TRAILS — Danny MacAskill has made a life and a career with incredible dedication to his bike.
The daily hours of practice for years has certainly paid off for this Scottish man, and his abilities and skills make him one of the best trail and street riders in the world.
In fact, you may remember him from the Have You Seen This? feature “Danny’s Wee Day Out,” where he cruises around the Scottish countryside performing mind-bending tricks on his trail bike. It’s a video that’s so incredible that it’s hard to believe there was no CGI involved.
While MacAskill’s usual videos are straightforward stunt displays, “Wee Day Out” and his newest video, “Danny Daycare,” show a different side of MacAskill. They both showcase his gentle sense of humor that make for incredibly charming stories.
In “Danny Daycare,” MacAskill is charged with babysitting a toddler. But reading a book to a sweet towheaded girl isn’t quite the adrenaline rush that he’s used to. Pretty soon he’s glancing longingly to the outdoors and a bike trailer in the back garden.
That’s when MacAskill has a “perfect” idea: take little Daisy on a stunt cycle adventure.
Sure, they ride the trails, including some jumps and flips, but they also take time out to feed the ducks, look at some fish, and check out some incredible views of nature.
As you probably guessed, Daisy isn’t really riding in the back as MacAskill performs the actual stunts, but the cuts to Daisy talking sweetly to herself in the trailer make the illusion and the story complete.
In the end, of course, it’s still about the stunts. MacAskill is used to dealing with the physical challenges his bike presents, so adding a bike trailer for jumps and stunts is a new challenge that he overcomes with aplomb …sort of. Stay tuned to watch a few takes of a failed stunt and some footage of baby Daisy who is now riding the trails all on her own.
