HUNTINGTON, Emery County — Huntington Canyon has long been known for its gorgeous views. Head out from the town of Huntington on state Route 31 and you’ll ramble along the nearly 50-mile route between Fairview that provides access points for excellent fishing on Electric Lake, Huntington Reservoir and Cleveland Reservoir.
Wildlife abounds in this part of the state. With a bit of luck, visitors might see a moose, elk, antelope, bighorn sheep or even a bison.
Based on a recent video shared on Twitter, the canyon is also home to one of the most curious bobcats in the state. David Verdi posted the 45-second clip, captioning it, “The reward for being up all night. Just another day in Huntington, Utah.”
As the video begins, the bobcat is seen slowly approaching the road. Verdi apparently attracted it with some sort of call, which is heard in the background. Of course, it’s unclear whether the bobcat was actually enticed by the sound or simply wanted to see for itself what was making such a bizarre noise.

Verdi wrote in the post that he shot the video about 8 miles up the canyon, near the Huntington Power Plant. Most surprisingly, the encounter occurred about 1 pm. Bobcats are typically nocturnal, so midday sightings such as this are rare.
According to the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, bobcats range from Mexico to Canada. The solitary animals are common in Utah, hunkering down in sheltered areas during the day. Once the sun goes down, they hunt small mammals such as rabbits.
