THE HOME — We’ve all been forced to watch a video someone took of their child, and they all claim the same thing: “It’s so cute! You’re going to love it!”
No, in fact, you’re probably not going to love it. Grandma and grandpa will love it, but not so much anyone else.
I’m not mocking or disparaging the excitement that comes for most people when they have a baby. They should be excited, and I truly celebrate their excitement. But that doesn’t mean that every single moment that a parent finds sweet and precious should be foisted as sweet and precious on all friends and relations.
Of course, there are exceptions that prove the rule. In this case, that exception comes in the form of a professional musician singing and strumming sweetly to his baby boy. In the video, YouTube user Itso croons the old-timey classic, “You Must Have Been a Beautiful Baby.”
When I say croon, I truly mean that this man croons. It’s not in the flashy sense you may relate with “crooners” that made all the ladies swoon such as Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby; it’s more of the sweet, gentle croon that comes from the original definition of the word.
Listen, I’m not a huge fan of babies, and even I loved this video, so I’m pretty sure you’ll love it too. If nothing else, just let it wash over you and calm you into a little afternoon catnap.
Itso is a musician and guitar teacher based in New York City. You can check out more of his videos on his YouTube channel.
