AWWWWEVILLE — Concocting a Christmas wish list was always serious business for me as a child.
After Thanksgiving, I would comb through the American Girl doll catalogue and dog-ear the Toys-R-Us big book, emphatically circling with pen the toys I wanted until the glossy pages became embossed due to my overzealousness.
While I thoroughly enjoyed gift-giving at a young age, I can't say that I overly concerned myself with what other people really needed. And I am almost certain I wouldn't have considered their desires more than my own.
In a pretty special video put out a week ago by UPtv on YouTube, a complex scenario was presented to children of the Boys and Girls Club in Atlanta: If you had to choose, would you rather have something you want for Christmas, or give something to someone you love?
The psychology of the choice is fascinating, and the maturity level of the kids participating — most of whom the video says come from low-income families — is seriously heartwarming.
It really is an exemplification of the best parts of the season.
