BUFFALO CANYON, Utah County — Division of Wildlife Resources conservation officers are seeking information about the poachers who illegally killed a large bull elk in the Wasatch elk unit.
The dead elk was located Monday, Oct. 5, by a hunter near Buffalo Canyon, which is part of a spike-only unit during the general season, according to DWR. The hunter contact DWR and investigating officers discovered the 6x6 trophy bull elk had been shot between the eyes.
"There is no way someone could have mistaken this elk for a spike," DWR conservation officer Sean Spencer said. "They shot it right between a large set of antlers."
Conservation officers believe the animal was killed sometime between Saturday, Oct. 3, and Sunday, Oct. 4.
