WHIT KNOLL, Sanpete County — Division of Wildlife Resources officials are seeking the public's help in locating those responsible for illegally killing a bull elk in Sanpete County.
DWR conservation officers received a tip about a dead elk on Friday, Oct. 9. The 4x4 bull elk was located near Whit Knoll on Wagon Ridge near Skylive Drive, DWR said. The area is part of a spike-only unit.
The tipster told officers the bull elk was missing the back straps and front quarters when it was discovered. However, when a conservation officers hiked to the scene the next day to investigate, more of the meat had been removed. The animal's head remained intact.
DWR said a blue Chevrolet Z71 pickup truck was seen in the area on Oct. 8 and Oct. 9. The truck has a lift kit and stickers in the rear window and officers are seeking to interview the owners of the truck.
