MIDVALE — One of two people wanted in connection with a string of burglaries across the Salt Lake Valley who was hospitalized Thursday after allegedly crashing a stolen vehicle into a parked flat-bed truck, has been booked into the Salt Lake County Jail.
Unified police believe John Comly, 32, was driving a stolen Honda CRV Thursday near 6915 S. 900 East when, for an unknown reason, he drifted into the shoulder and crashed into the back of a flat-bed truck that was parked along the side of the road doing construction.
"Comly spontaneously uttered he had used methamphetamine and marijuana prior to the accident," a Salt Lake County Jail report states.
A female passenger in her early 30s, whose name had not been released as of Friday, was taken to a local hospital in extremely critical condition with extensive injuries. Comly was also taken to a local hospital to be treated for less serious injuries.
Unified police said Comly is a convicted felon who had warrants out for his arrest for weapons violations in Montana and Salt Lake County. A firearm was found in the crashed vehicle on Thursday.
Comly was charged in May in 3rd District Court with possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person and six counts of discharge of a firearm for allegedly shooting at another man's vehicle.
Multiple agencies across the valley had also been looking for Comly and the woman in connection with a string of burglaries, according to Unified police.
