Tooele man dies after fall on Mt. Nebo

JUAB COUNTY — A mountain climber died as a result of a fall while hiking Mount Nebo Saturday, authorities said.

Authorities identified the man as Gregory Bronder, 40, of Tooele, Utah.

According to Lt. Erik Knutzen of the Utah County Sheriff's Office, emergency responders and search and rescue teams from Juab and Utah counties were dispatched to Mount Nebo shortly after 11:30 a.m. Saturday when they got a report that a 40-year-old male had fallen.

Knutzen said that a group of three climbers were hiking in the area in order to train for a climb on Mount Rainier. Whlie crossing a saddle between two of the peaks, Bronder fell. Officials estimated that Bronder fell approximately 1,500 feet.

The other two climbers in the party tried to provide medical attention to the injured man, but his injuries were too severe. Bronder died as a result of the fall.

Investigators from the Utah County Sheriff's Office are currently on scene with search and rescue teams to recover the body.
