YELPSVILLE — Some dogs love chasing squirrels, but this dog sounds like he might have a panic attack if he can’t chase all the squirrels he ever sees.

It’s no surprise that dog barks and vocalizations are varied within individual dogs, depending on what they want or need. Some dogs sounds like human babies, some dogs sound like Muppet monsters and some dogs can even sound like they’re saying “I love you.”

And then there’s a cat that “barks” like a dog until he realized he’s being watched, but that’s beside the point.

The point is that the springer spaniel in this video is a known excitable squirrel chaser. YouTube user Meaghan Griffin said that when Rocco sees a squirrel while he’s in the car that he can’t chase, he vocalizes what she calls his “Squirrel Song.”

But it’s not so much a song as a great imitation of some sort of monkey. The sharp, staccato yelps Rocco produces sound like part of any given “jungle” sound effects found in the movies. He also yelps a convincing birdcall and maybe even one human-like scream.

The weird part is that seeing and hearing Rocco’s intense excitement and almost panic at not being able to chase those “evil” squirrels is oddly transferrable. By the end of the video, I wanted nothing more than the satisfaction of watching Rocco bound out of the car to chase squirrels and maybe even chasing those squirrels with him.
