PROVO — A freight train derailed in Provo and one of the cars contained a dangerous chemical.
The train was slowly leaving the Utah Railways yard near 1900 South and 800 East when it encountered what authorities called "a problem with the rail."
"When it hit the faulty piece of track, it kind of caused a slough, a shift in the weight of the rail car, so the momentum kind of rolled it over," said Deputy Fire Chief Gary Jolley.
That caused a tanker car to slide down a hill, taking two other cars with it.
The middle car contained ethanol which is very flammable and ended up on its top.
None of the chemical leaked from the car because they are specially designed to prevent this. An outside agency is working on getting the car safely righted.
