John Daley reportingPolice are investigating two armed robberies that happened in the middle of the night. Both took place in Salt Lake City, and both victims were randomly targeted.
Lt. Sandra Urry, Salt Lake City Police Dept.: "He was definitely afraid for his life."
It's a nightmare come true. Late at night, a family held at gunpoint, their home robbed.
Police don't see drugs or revenge as a motive here. Instead, they think thieves were just looking for cash.
Around 11:30 last night, two men, wearing hooded sweatshirts and bandanas approached a home around 9th East and 30th South, and knocked on the door. A man inside opened the door. The suspects pulled out their guns and forced their way inside, terrifying the man and a woman.
Lt. Sandra Urry, Salt Lake City Police Dept.: "Held him and the lady that was their at gun point, held the guns to their heads, ordered them on the floor and demanded money from them."
The man had some money with him and handed it over to the suspects. At that point, a third suspect knocked on the window and the thieves ran away.
Police searched the area with dogs, but the K-9s weren't able to pick up a solid scent. Police think the suspect may have gotten away in a car.
About an hour earlier, another random robbery at a market on 10th East and 2nd South. The clerk, closing up for the night, went outside to bring in his signs. That's when two men wearing ski masks and carrying guns threatened the man and ordered him back inside the store.
They demanded he empty his register. He did and the men took off. Police are looking for those suspects too.
In both cases, the victims say they had no idea who the armed men were.
Authorities are warning everyone to be careful and not to open your door to anyone you don't know, especially at night.
