BOUNTIFUL — All of Bountiful will go dark for about three hours this weekend.
Crews plan to shut down power to the city at 1 a.m. Sunday to complete a two-year upgrade to Bountiful's electrical system. City Manager Tom Hardy said crews estimate the work will be finished by 4 a.m.
The city has invested $3 million to upgrade its Parrish Substation in Centerville, where power is delivered into Bountiful through Rocky Mountain Power's 138,000-volt power lines and converted into 46,000 volts.
This weekend, crews from Bountiful Power, Rocky Mountain Power and joint contractor Cache Valley Electric will reconnect transmission lines to three new circuit breakers and replace a 43-year-old circuit breaker. Old connections and structures will be removed, and new structures will be connected.
City officials have advised residents not to call 911 during the power outage unless they have an emergency. They also suggest turning off and unplugging sensitive electronic devices from power outlets before the outage.
Also, refrigerators or freezers should keep food cold, as long as they aren't opened during the power outage.
