Nadine Wimmer ReportingThis year's Sundance Film Festival is the place for stars, but not cars! There are some changes for film buffs planning a trip to Park City. Organizers are suggesting a first this year, to make sure the only ticket in town involves the films.
Getting around Park City can be tough anytime during ski season. When the population triples for an international film festival, here's the parking advice from a Sundance veteran.
Lynn Schmitt/ Part-time resident: "Good luck. It's nearly impossible."
It'll be so tough, organizers say you're more likely to see a star on Main Street than you are a parking spot.
So locals driving to Park City are asked to park in the next resort town--Deer Valley.
Alison Butz/Park City Events Manager: "So what we're asking is for people to park their cars in the lot and leave them there and take the bus around town."
The city is providing heated shuttle stops, and free busing to get Sundance crowds from Deer Valley to the Main Street spotlight.
Alison Butz: "It's a little hard. We're hoping people will stick with it and trust us. You will be able to find a parking space there."
Construction has closed many of the usual parking spots in town. And police have stepped up fines to discourage people from parking and just paying the tickets.
Some film festival veterans are willing to take their chances.
Susan Fink/ Sundance Veteran: "I've always had good luck parking."
But city leaders don't recommend it.
"Our goal for the past few years has been to get you from venue to venue in 15 minutes. You can't do that by car."
