SNOW CANYON STATE PARK — Dubbed as the most popular hike in Snow Canyon State Park, Hidden Pinyon allows hikers to explore diverse landscapes along the self-guided nature trail.
Snow Canyon State Park is located only about 15 minutes from St. George. Hikers have to pay a $6 day-use entrance fee, but there are several hikes you can enjoy in the park during your visit.
The Hidden Pinyon trailhead is located off Snow Canyon Drive and is clearly marked with a sign. The horseshoe-shaped trail takes hikers through several areas with large boulders on each side, giving the impression of a small slot canyon.
The trail is fairly flat for most of the hike and is a good hike for families. However, there are several small drop-offs along the trail where hikers climb down slickrock and small children may need assistance. There are also areas along the trail where hikers can scramble up small hills of slickrock.
The trail alternates between deep sand and slickrock, and it gives hikers gorgeous views of the red rock cliffs and black volcano rocks around the park. There is also a variety of desert vegetation along the path that hikers can identify with a nature guide provided by the park.
The sandy trail meets up with a paved walking path for the last 1/4 mile of the hike and is an easy stroll back to the parking lot.
