SALT LAKE CITY — Macaroni and cheese has warmed hearts for ages.

Since the first known macaroni and cheese recipe was jotted down in 1769, the dish has become a favorite in the U.S. The delightful comfort food is especially enjoyable when the weather in Utah grows cold, so we decided to compile a list of restaurants in the area that serve variations of macaroni and cheese as a main dish.

Feel free to let us know about your favorite spot for macaroni and cheese in the comments.

Ruth’s Diner ============

Ruth’s is the perfect place to go for a charming, home-style dish of macaroni and cheese. Set in a converted trolley car, the diner has been in operation for 85 years and is well worth the drive into Emigration Canyon.

According to the menu, Grandma Claire’s baked mac and cheese is “better than Mama used to make.” The hearty entree features crunchy bread crumbs and a tasty layer of cheese on top of thick elbow macaroni noodles. Customers can opt to add chicken, and the dish always comes with a fresh roll, vegetables, and soup or salad.

A new addition to the Salt Lake restaurant scene, Rye is stylish spot that offers tasty eats and the opportunity to hear music from Urban Lounge next door while concerts are going on.

The restaurant’s truffled mac and cheese features a light but creamy sauce that includes Swiss cheese and chives. The crunchy topping and truffle gives the dish a distinctive flavor that is a delight to devour.

Eva’s Bakery ============
