RIVERTON -- Deputies are looking for a man who robbed a Riverton credit union Wednesday. On Thursday, The Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office released surveillance photos, hoping the public can help find him.

Wednesday around 4:50 p.m. a man walked in the Jordan Credit Union on 2522 W. 12600 South, armed with a gun and a box.

Lt. Don Hutson, with the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office, said, "What's interesting about this particular robbery is that he brought in a package ... a kind of square box ... and claimed that there was an explosive device inside that box."

The man demanded cash from one of the tellers, then left with an undisclosed amount. Only employees were in the bank at the time.

Hutson said, "It's a very traumatic event whenever anybody sticks a handgun in your face and demands things, and obviously that coupled with the fact that he said there's a bomb, which kind of heightens everybody's alarm," Hutson said.

The sheriff's office called the Unified Fire Authority bomb squad. They determined no explosives were inside the box. Shortly after, officer detained a man who matched the description in the area north the credit union.

"We interviewed him at length, actually, and have not ruled him out completely, but certainly don't have enough at this time to make an arrest or hold him any longer," Hutson said.

Detectives say the robber's tennis shoes and jeans are unique. He was wearing a hoodie and dark mask.

Detectives aren't sure if the man walked north to a getaway car or if he continued on foot. If you have any information call the sheriff's office 801-743-7000.
