SALT LAKE CITY -- Salt Lake City has a new fire chief. Chief Kurt Cook officially took to his new post Friday.

Cook is a 24-year veteran and second-generation Salt Lake City firefighter. He served in several roles in the department, most recently as the deputy chief of operations.

"For us to achieve what we need to and want to achieve as a city, the roll of fire chief is of utmost importance," said Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker.

Cook finished the ceremony by promoting several other department members, including Deputy Chief Brian Dale and Deputy Chief Karl Lieb.
