SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- More people are visiting Lake Powell this year compared to 2008.
The National Park Service reports a 5 percent increase at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. So far, more than 1.6 million visits have been tallied this year.
After an average June and a below-average July, activity picked up dramatically in August with a 31 percent jump compared to August 2008.
Wahweap Marina was the most popular spot.
The area is likely to see more visitors next year with the 100th anniversary celebration of Rainbow Bridge National Monument.
