SALT LAKE COUNTY -- Search and rescue teams have found the body of a Utah man who went missing in Neff's Canyon earlier this week.

Benjamin Hoercherl's body was found just before 8 p.m. Friday by a Davis County search and rescue worker who was aiding Salt Lake County in the search.

Deputies say Hoercherl's body was found in a remote area of the canyon and his wounds appear to be self-inflicted.

"We're not happy about the outcome, but we're happy that the family can receive some closure," said Salt Lake County sheriff's Lt. Don Hutson.

The 27-year-old father was reported missing on Tuesday; his car was found Wednesday morning in Neff's Canyon by family members.

The Salt Lake County Sheriff's office launched a search-and-rescue operation Tuesday night, which they continued through Friday when they found his body.

Hoercherl leaves behind a pregnant wife and a 5-year-old child.
