SALT LAKE CITY -- Sandy resident Ann Kinane has spent the past two days going through photos of piano tuning tools, trying to make a list describing the more than 240 tools stolen from her car. But with her tools gone, she's out of a job.

"I'm devastated right now. I don't know what to do," said Kinane. "Hundreds of irreplaceable items that I can't even get anymore. I can't even buy them from the store. I'm out of work."

Kinane had parked her car in the Hogle Zoo parking lot Tuesday evening and decided to go for a bike ride. When she returned, her car was surrounded by police officers. A thief had broken out her passenger side window to get in. The thief took a cooler filled with water, a backpack with some clothing, and her toolbox she says was covered up and hidden in the back seat.

"They basically took my life away," she said.

The tools had been collected over a 20 year career of rebuilding and tuning pianos. She says most of the tools are very small and would look strange to many people.

Another bike rider in the area told police they saw a suspect taking items from the car and followed the suspect's vehicle long enough to take down the license plate number. Kinane says even with that number, police haven't gotten very far in the investigation.

She has been visiting pawn shops to see if the tools have shown up.

A Salt Lake City police spokesperson tells KSL Newsradio they are working some leads on the case.
