PROVO -- A Walgreens in Provo was robbed for the second time in just a few weeks. The robber didn't want money, but pills. Police know it's a different robber because they've already arrested the man who held up the pharmacy last month.

Police say a man walked into the pharmacy at 1315 N. State St. Thursday morning.

Provo police Capt. Cliff Argyle said, "About 3:30 in the morning, an individual comes into the store and goes right up to the pharmacist, passes the pharmacist a note. The note says give me all of your OxyContin, and there is some suggestion of physical violence if that request isn't fulfilled."

The robber said he had a gun but never showed one.

The pharmacist complied, and the robber left.

In the 17 days since the last robbery, the store has made some security improvements to prevent a robber from jumping the counter like last time.

There are surveillance photos of the robber from the latest robbery.

While store employees were surprised to be robbed again so soon, especially with all of the publicity of the first robber's quick arrest. Police say people who are addicted to pills are willing to rob a pharmacy.

Argyle said, "They may not even be aware of the last robbery, or the effects of being on camera and being arrested so quickly. I have a feeling they have no clue that this store was robbed such a short time ago."

Police describe the man as:

  • 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall
  • medium to slightly heavy build
  • thin beard with lighter colored hair
  • wearing:
    • a blue baseball hat
    • a dark hoody
    • tan pants
    • black boarding style tennis shoes

Rader was spotted while he was making a stop in La Verkin.

This same Walgreens was also robbed in March.
