SALT LAKE CITY -- Well-known Utah businessman and community leader Sam Weller has passed away at the age of 88. Weller's daughter-in-law, Catherine Weller, says he died during the night Tuesday at his home of causes incident to old age.
Weller is best known for Sam Weller's Zion Bookstore at 254 S. Main Street in Salt Lake City.
The Deseret News reports Weller was born in Germany in 1921 and immigrated to the United States after World War I. He moved to Salt Lake City in 1925.

Weller originally worked at the bookstore for his father, Gus Weller, who opened the store in 1929. Sam Weller eventually took over the business, which he passed to his son Tony after losing his eyesight in 1997.
Sam Weller's Zion Bookstore has been downtown on Main Street since 1961. It recently announced plans to move but has not yet done so.
Catherine Weller tells the Deseret News that she will remember his fiery passion about people and books.
Sam Weller's survivors include his wife, Lila. Details about a memorial service have not been announced.
