SALT LAKE CITY -- A man who fled to Hawaii after being accused of scalding his 1-year-old son is now back in Utah and pleading guilty to the charges against him.

Eric Ison Jones avoided trial on charges of second-degree felony child abuse when he entered his plea to third-degree charges yesterday.

Jones admitted he burned the boy in a hot bath tub in the fall of 2006.

The boy was in critical condition for several months with third-degree burns on his legs and back. He is still recovering from his injuries.
