OGDEN, Utah (AP) -- The Utah Board of Regents has voted to assign five of its members to a task force that will consider whether to affiliate the College of Eastern Utah in Price with Logan's Utah State University.
The task force will hold a series of public hearings over the next few weeks and offer a recommendation to the regents at their July 16 meeting.
The board met on Friday at Weber State University in Ogden. Michael Petersen, a former CEU president who now heads the Utah Education Network, has crafted a proposal that calls for the college to affiliate with the university in an effort to include four-year programs run by Utah State.
However, some of the two-year college's trustees and faculty say they are doubtful that the proposal addresses declining enrollment and other challenges.
