SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The state Board of Regents will discuss a proposal that calls for the College of Eastern Utah to affiliate with Utah State University in an effort to include four-year university programs.
The regents will consider the matter at a meeting Friday at Weber State University in Ogden.
The proposal was crafted by Michael Petersen, a former CEU president who now heads the Utah Education Network. He says it's a reasonable trade off for the college to sacrifice some autonomy so it can become a regional university.
Petersen says CEU can better serve southeastern Utah with a mission that's broader than that of a community college.
However, the two-year college's trustees are doubtful that the proposal addresses declining enrollment and other challenges.
