ESCALANTE -- An Escalante man was arrested for threatening the Garfield County Attorney.

Police say 41-year-old Joe Sidwell left a threatening phone message for Barry Huntington after Sidwell's wife tried to place a stalking injunction against him.

Although the stalking injunction was eventually denied, Sidwell allegedly left a harassing message on the cell phone of an Escalante police officer Sunday night. Then called Huntington's office and left the threatening message.

Sidwell was arrested Monday, April 27.

Sidwell faces misdemeanor charges of Threats to Influence Official Action, and Electronic Communication Harassment.

"The Garfield County Sheriff's Office takes threats on anyone very seriously and we will do all we can to ensure that Mr. Sidwell is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law," says Garfield County Sheriff Danny Perkins.

Piute County is handling the case since Huntington, the Garfield County attorney, will be a witness in the case.
