(KSL News) -- A man died today after crossing the street on his way to work this afternoon.
It happened at 3300 S. Main Street. The man was returning from his lunch break. He had a red light, but still tried to cross the street.
Witnesses say the driver sped up to beat a yellow light and hit the man in the crosswalk. The man hit the windshield on the driver's side and was thrown several feet.
One man saw the accident, pulled over and tried to help.
Jon Castleton, Witness; "Trying to get some kind of pulse, trying to see if he was breathing and he took his last breath as I was holding his chest."
Police are still investigating the incident.
The victim's name is Clifford E. Armstrong. The victim's family says they don't have money for a funeral. There has been an account set up at Far West Bank for donations.
