SALT LAKE CITY -- Former Salt Lake County Mayor Nancy Workman has now hired her daughter Aisza Wilde to work for her at the Sandy Area Chamber of Commerce.
Workman says Wilde is now working for her on a contract basis to help with accounting and Internet marketing.
In 2003, Workman was the Salt Lake County mayor. She used county funds to pay an employee to do work at the Boys and Girls Club, where Wilde was working as chief financial officer. That led to two felony charges, which Workman was eventually acquitted of.
At the time, Workman blamed dirty politics. Now she says she won't dwell on the past. She simply wants to move on. And she says even given the past, she has no qualms about hiring Wilde. She said, "We're a private corporation, and I'm the president and CEO, and my job is to get the best people in here."
Wilde says she isn't worried about connections to her mother or to the past either. "She's been my mother for my whole life," she said laughingly. "We've always been connected."
Workman says Wilde is the best person for the job because of her experience in Internet marketing and in accounting. Wilde has been running several Internet-based, so-called "network marketing" businesses, some of which have been involved in a couple of civil court judgments. But Wilde says that's all a part of doing normal business.
Sandy Chamber Board President Brad Snow says he endorses the hiring decision. He, too, says it's a private organization and people hire their relatives in private businesses all over the world.
